What to expect

During a sports massage your session will typically begin with a discussion about your activities, any problem areas, and what you hope to achieve. The therapist may then assess your movement and posture. You'll be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and will be covered with towels on the massage table. The massage itself will involve various techniques, which can sometimes feel quite deep and focused as the therapist works on tight muscles and tissues. It's important to communicate with them about the pressure and any discomfort you feel. The session will likely target the muscle groups most relevant to your sport or any specific issues you're experiencing. Afterwards, your therapist might offer advice on stretches or exercises, and it's recommended to drink plenty of water. You may feel some soreness in the following day or two, similar to after a workout.

How you will feel after

After a sports massage, it's common to feel a mix of sensations. You might experience a sense of relief and increased flexibility in the areas that were worked on. However, it's also normal to feel some tenderness or soreness, similar to how your muscles feel after exercise. This usually subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Your therapist will likely advise you to drink plenty of water to help your body flush out any released toxins. Depending on the intensity of the massage, taking it easy for the rest of the day is often recommended to allow your body to recover and fully benefit from the treatment. Pay attention to how your body feels and don't hesitate to contact your therapist if you have any concerns.
